"Fishing rod carry on" is one of those questions anglers keep arguing about. The answer is boring: almost always no. Even a short travel rod gets pulled at screening, because nobody at the checkpoint reaches for a tape measure.

Your frequent flyer baggage allowance in the Miles & More programme doesn't track what you paid. It tracks your tier. Frequent Traveller, Senator, HON Circle: each one adds a different amount of checked baggage. And one fare name wipes the whole bonus out.

The Railjet to Prague leaves Vienna just after seven in the morning. On January 1st. Whoever plans that either has a system or hasn't slept.

Two kilos over the limit can cost up to 70 euros depending on the airline, according to finanzen.net. So every travel season, somebody goes looking for a luggage scale app. The awkward answer first: your phone can't weigh a suitcase. It can guess at one, and honestly that's enough more often than...

My friend Thomas did the maths back in March, two weeks before his flight to Fuerteventura. Ticket: 79 euros. Golf bag: 54 euros. Per leg, obviously. He took the clubs anyway and then sent me a very long voice message about it.

Eighteen litres. That is the whole allowance, mathematically, once a bag measures exactly 40x30x15 cm, and that measurement is now the only free piece of baggage in Lufthansa's cheapest short and medium haul fare. So 40x30x15 hand luggage means one bag, under the seat in front, and nothing else.
