Flying while pregnant rarely falls apart because of the bump. It falls apart because of paperwork. What decides things at check-in is your week of pregnancy and whether the certificate is in your carry-on. The medical side belongs to AOK and your doctor. This is the baggage half.
How late can you fly while pregnant? The deadlines, airline by airline

What the certificate has to say
Four things, honestly not much more:
that the pregnancy is uncomplicated
your expected due date
that nothing speaks against flying
a recent date. Ryanair only accepts letters dated within two weeks of travel
The letter and your maternity notes belong in the cabin, not in the hold. A document wallet probably sounds like overkill until the desk agent asks for all of it at once. A friend of mine got turned away at the Frankfurt desk with a six-week-old letter, even though the flight had been booked for months. The two-week limit is literal.

Compression socks go on before boarding
According to AOK, the risk of thrombosis is around six times higher during pregnancy than otherwise, as of 2023. Flying while pregnant means the socks go on at the gate, not somewhere over the Alps once your feet have already swollen.

Liquid medication is exempt from the 100 ml rule
Surprisingly few people know this one. Pregnant travelers get an exception at airport security: liquid medication you need for the trip sits outside the 100 ml limit, per the German Bundespolizei. You just have to explain what it's for at the checkpoint, and a prescription makes that conversation shorter.
Seat and sleep
Aisle, not window. You'll be getting up more often than you'd like. And a neck pillow earns its keep: it keeps your head from lolling sideways once you doze off, which is what actually causes the stiff neck, not the sitting itself.

How late can I fly while pregnant?
Most airlines carry you until the end of week 36, so four weeks before your due date. With twins the window closes earlier, usually at week 32, and at Condor as early as week 28.
Do I actually need a certificate?
Yes, if you're flying in the certificate-required week, and then genuinely yes. Without a current letter the airline can turn you away at the gate, and your ticket won't protect you. Book the doctor's appointment as soon as you have your travel dates, not "sometime before." Some practices need two or three weeks' lead time even for a simple letter.
What belongs in my carry-on?
Maternity notes, the certificate, medication, compression socks, water and a snack. Anything you'd need in the air or during a delay belongs in the cabin rather than the checked bag.
Does the outbound or the return flight count?
The return. Airlines check your week of pregnancy on the day you fly home, not the day you leave. Fly out in week 27 and back in week 29, and week 29 is what counts. Depending on the airline, that can push you into certificate-required territory even though you didn't need one on the way out.
